Academic Advice

During your time at Birmingham City University you will be asked to take various assessments to test your learning and understanding of your subject. Unfortunately problems can and do sometimes happen. If this has happened to you then there is support and help available.

 

Help with your work.

The University has resources and help available for students who are struggling with their learning, whether it is help preparing for exams, problems with referencing, English language support, general study skills advice or disability support.

Help if things go wrong.

Hopefully you won’t have any academic problems while you’re at Birmingham City University but if you do then The Advice Centre is here to help. We offer advice, information and representation on a number of academic issues, including:

• Applications for extenuating circumstances (deferring or requesting an extension)
• Errors in the way an assessment is conducted
• University Disciplianary hearings and appealing against the outcome of a disciplinary hearing.
• Complaints regarding a member of staff or course delivery
• Fitness to practice issues
• Requests for a break from studying or withdrawing from you course.

Most of this information is available on Moodle. It is important to be familiar with the contents of these documents but if you have difficulties understanding anything or if you can't find what you need to know then the Advice Centre can help.
