Aikido is a defensive Japanese Martial Art founded by Professor Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969). The Word means, ‘the way through spirit and harmony’. Its unique principles and attraction are the gentle application of precise techniques through spherical movements, which have often been compared to dancing. Unlike other Martial Arts that may require physical strength, the Art of Aikido is purely defensive. Aikido uses the attacker’s energy, force and aggression against themselves in order to gain control and render them harmless. The Dojo is situated at City North Campus, Attwood Building Gym Perry Barr, Birmingham B42 2SU. Two classes are held each Friday; a Beginners Class starting at 5:30p.m – 7:00p.m and a General Class starting at 7:00 p.m – 8:30 p.m The Club welcomes anyone regardless of your Martial Art background or physical ability. You are more than welcome to come and watch before you practice, our friendly club members will be happy to see you. It is free to watch a lesson although your experience on the mat as a participant will give you a better insight in to how Aikido can develop you as a person.
