Representation
One of the Union’s main roles is to represent all students at Birmingham City University.
Representation is vitally important to the Union. It means the Union is there to protect the rights of students, make sure that students are able to get the most out of their time at Birmingham City University and to ensure all students are able to have their voices heard on the issues that matter to them.
We need Representatives!
This is the time of year when students are asked to put themselves forward as Representatives (Reps). This year, again, there are two kinds of Reps: STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES and FACULTY REPRESENTATIVES.
What are Student Representatives?
Student Representatives (or Student Reps) are students who gather opinion from their fellow students, and then represent those views at meetings with the University staff responsible for their course. Basically, they are there to tell the tutors and lecturers what they are doing right, and what needs to be improved. Over the years, Reps have been responsible for getting changes made on behalf of students covering everything from better feedback on assessments to the way entire modules are structured and taught.

What are Faculty Representatives?
Faculty Student Representatives (or Faculty Reps) are like Student Reps but they work at Faculty level. That means instead of only gathering opinion from students on their course, they gather feedback from all students in their Faculty, and represent their views at Faculty level meetings. There are two Faculty Reps for each of the six University faculties, who are elected through the Union's Student Council. Faculty Reps get paid £500 each year for the work they do. We are recruiting Faculty Reps for 10-11 now, so if you fancy earning £500 extra quid this year click the link below!

The University is getting Audited - and we've told them what you think!
In November 2010 Birmingham City University is going through an Institutional Audit - basically an inspection from an external body, the Quality Assurance Agency or QAA, who are there to make sure all Universities in the UK are up to scratch. As part of this process, your Students' Union has researched and written a report, called a Student Written Submission, on what students think about their experiences here at Birmingham City University.
To find out more about this process, read the full report and find out how you can get involved, please visit our Student Written Submission page.
Calling all Part Time Students: positions available as University Senate Representatives!
As well as our other opportunities for Reps, students registered as studying part time have another opportunity to get involved and have their voice heard at the highest possible level. The University's Senate is one of the most important committees there is - and it has two seats reserved specifically for Part Time Students.
